Mr. R. Kulkarni is a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon at the Royal Gwent Hospital. His practice is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of all shoulder and elbow disorders. Mr Kulkarni leads the Shoulder and Elbow unit and provides a comprehensive trauma and elective service to the population of Gwent. He also provides a tertiary service for second opinions and has referrals from Bristol, Cardiff, Bridgend, Carmarthen, Gloucester, Merthyr Tydfil, Pontypridd and Rhondda.
Mr. Kulkarni underwent his basic orthopaedic training in the south west of England and South Wales. He completed a 12 month fellowship at the Hennepin County Medical Centre in Minneapolis, USA under the guidance of Drs Ramon Gustillo and Richard Kyle. He regularly undergoes continuing medical education to keep abreast of all the latest developments in shoulder and elbow surgery.
Mr. Kulkarni has a specialist interest in sporting injuries of the shoulder, arthroscopic surgery and trauma.

Treasurer of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society (2006- 2008) –www.BESS.org.uk Secretary of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society ( Current) Founder and Honorary Secretary South West Shoulder and Elbow Club. This is a Consultant only group that meets twice a year to discuss difficult cases and to promote research and learning. Expert member of NICE representing shoulders and elbows Member of the Expert Working Group (EWG), Chapter H (orthopaedics) representing shoulder and elbow surgery. EWG is a group working for the Department of Health in guiding and advising with regards to coding, tariff and Health Resource Groups (HRGs) Review Editor of ‘Shoulder and Elbow’ - A new international journal published by Wiley Blackwell Reviewer of Shoulder and Elbow papers for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery Host of the National British Shoulder and Elbow Conference – 2004 Member HRG implementation team – Welsh assembly Elected member of the Welsh Board of the Royal College of Surgeons who interact with the Welsh Assembly in health policy development.
